Dealership

Dealerships are one of the biggest energy users among the automotive industry, with lighting, air compressor and heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) being the major contributors. An audit of dealerships, in metropolitan and regional areas of Victoria and Tasmania, identified that an average delearship uses 208,336 kWh of electricity per year. That is an average cost of $42,550, almost double the industry's average.

There are many energy saving opportunities that can be made, which could potentially save businesses hundreds of dollars in electricity costs.

Quick tips to manage your major energy contributors:

LIGHTING

  • Install timers and sensors on your lighting
  • Regularly clean skylights
  • Displaying signs to remind workers to switch off the lights

HEATING VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC)

  • Reset your thermostats
  • Program your HVAC controllers to match business operating hours
  • Draught proof your doors and windows

AIR COMPRESSOR

  • Ensure regular maintenance and check for leaks
  • Purchase an air compressor that is the right size for your business needs
  • Turn the air compressor off when not required or install a timed switch
